Many of you are wondering whether it is possible to lose data from your phone during a repair.

First of all, it is important to note that this is very rare and mainly concerns complex repairs

However, you can back up your data so that you can be completely reassured before starting the repair yourself or entrusting it to a third party.

What repairs for what risks?

Simple hardware repairs:

Simple hardware repairs, such as replacing a screen, rear window or battery, are less likely to cause data loss. However, it is always recommended that you back up your data beforehand, as there is always an inherent risk when handling electronic components.

Complex repairs:

Some more complex repairs, such as micro-soldering the motherboard, may require the smartphone to be reset. In such cases, it is very likely that your data will be lost if you have not backed it up beforehand.

If you plan to have the repair carried out by a third party, either because it is still under warranty or because you simply prefer to have the repair done by a professional, we strongly advise you to back up your data.

Also, do not hesitate to ask customer service (if the phone is being sent for repair under warranty), as it is not uncommon in such cases for data to be automatically deleted or for the phone to be replaced with another one.

How do I back up my data?

In general, we recommend that you back up your data regularly in case your phone encounters a problem that results in data loss. Here are the different procedures.

 Cloud backup

Android: Samsung offers its own backup service called Samsung Cloud, which allows you to back up data such as contacts, messages, applications, settings, etc. Android users can also use third-party cloud services such as Google Drive to back up their data.

iOS: Apple offers iCloud as its primary backup service. iCloud allows you to back up data such as photos, contacts, messages, applications, settings, etc.

Backup applications

Android: Android users have the option of using various third-party applications to back up their data. Google also offers backup solutions, such as Google Photos for photos and videos, and Google Drive for other types of data.

iOS: iPhone users often have more seamless integration with Apple services. Apps such as Photos, Contacts, and Messages can be automatically backed up to iCloud.

Transferring data between devices

Android: Samsung offers Smart Switch, an application that makes it easy to transfer data from one Samsung device to another.

iOS: Apple offers the "Move My iPhone" application to simplify the process of transferring data between iOS devices.

Flexibility of backup options

Android: Android users often have more flexibility in choosing third-party backup services, in addition to the options offered by Samsung.

iOS: iPhone users have tighter integration with iCloud, but this can also mean fewer choices when it comes to backup services.

Data restoration

Android: Users can restore their data from Samsung Cloud or other cloud services when setting up a new device.

iOS: Data restoration is typically done from an iCloud backup when initially setting up a new iPhone.
