Samsung Z FLIP 5: can I repair it myself?

The Z FLIP 5 is the latest addition to Samsung's Z FLIP range.

Famous for its foldable design, the Z FLIP 5 is one of the most popular smartphones on the market.

Its design means that users may need to replace various parts if it breaks:

The main screen

Made of glass, it has a fold in the centre that allows the phone to open and close in two. Samsung guarantees 200,000 openings without damage. However, if you want to extend the life of your Z FLIP 5, it is entirely possible to replace the screen unit. The same applies if the screen breaks as a result of a fall.

The external screen

The Z FLIP 5 has a second touchscreen glass display on the outside of the phone, allowing it to be used when the phone is closed. This is convenient, but it exposes the user to an additional risk of breakage!

The rear glass

This forms the second lower part of the phone's exterior. Also made of glass, the rear glass can easily crack or break if dropped!

This is another feature made possible by the phone's foldable design. It would be impossible for the manufacturer to offer a single battery with the same battery life as other smartphones on the market.

So Samsung came up with a solution: keep the battery life of a single contemporary battery by splitting it in two!

That's why you'll find a main battery (the larger one) in the lower part of the phone and a smaller secondary battery in the upper part.

As a Z FLIP 5 user, you won't notice any difference, except when it's time to change the batteries! If your Z FLIP 5 no longer holds its charge, it's time to change both batteries! As they work in tandem, you'll need to change both and dismantle the top and bottom of the phone.
