Want to change your iPhone's chassis? Be careful! Make sure you check the version of your iPhone and the chassis you want to buy. The US and European versions are different. Here's why.

What is the difference between the US and European versions of the iPhone?

The difference lies in two main points that can hinder the proper use of your phone.

The first difference concerns the 5G antenna since the iPhone 12 series, i.e. since 2020.

US and European antennas are visually different and are not located in the same place in the phone. The connections are different from one version to another.

If you purchase a European iPhone chassis when your iPhone is a US version, you will not be able to connect your antenna because the configuration is different between the two versions, and vice versa.

The second difference concerns the iPhone 14 series and later models.

The US versions no longer have a SIM card reader and tray but work with the E-SIM system.

The European versions still have a SIM card reader and tray.

How can I find out which version of iOS my iPhone is running?

As a reminder, the antenna difference applies to iPhones from the 12 series onwards (from 2020). Earlier versions are not affected. For the SIM card tray, this applies to the 14 series and later (from 2022).

There are two ways to find out whether you have a US or European version.

The first is very simple: you can see it visually on the outside of the chassis.

  • the US version has a notch on the right (below the power button) and does not have a SIM card tray,
  • the European version does not have a notch on the right-hand side but has a SIM card tray on the left-hand side (below the volume buttons).

The second solution can be found in your iPhone settings.

Go to Settings > General > About and look at the model number.

The last letter or two before the slash (/) indicates the phone's origin and therefore its version.

If the last two letters are "LL", then it is a US version. You will therefore need to order a US version chassis.
