Is your iPhone touchscreen not working properly or not working at all? Here are a few things you can try to resolve the issue.

1. Clean your iPhone screen

Dirt, grease or residue can affect the responsiveness of the touch screen. Here's how to do it:

⚠️ Avoid: Never use harsh chemicals such as pure alcohol or bleach, as this could damage the screen.

2. Remove the case or screen protector

An incorrectly fitted or worn screen protector, or a case that exerts excessive pressure, can affect touch functionality. Remove these accessories to see if the problem persists. If the problem is resolved after removing them, consider replacing them.

3. Restart your iPhone (if the touchscreen is not completely broken)

A simple restart can often resolve minor software issues:

  • For an iPhone with Face ID: Press the side button and one of the volume buttons until the "Power Off" slider appears.
  • For models with a home button: Hold down the power button until the slider appears.

Restart the device and test the touchscreen. Here are all the techniques for restarting your iPhone.

4. Force the device to restart (if the touchscreen is no longer working at all)

If the touchscreen is completely frozen, a forced restart may be necessary:

iPhone 8 and later models:

  • Briefly press the volume up button, then the volume down button.
  • Hold down the side button until the Apple logo appears.

iPhone 7 and 7 Plus: Simultaneously hold down the side button and volume down button until the Apple logo appears.

iPhone 6s and earlier models: Press and hold the Home and Power buttons simultaneously.

5. Check for software updates

Outdated software can cause malfunctions:

  • Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
  • If an update is available, download and install it.

Updates often fix bugs that could affect the touchscreen.

6. Free up storage space

A lack of space can slow down or block certain functions, including the touchscreen:

  • Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
  • Delete unused apps or transfer files to iCloud.

7. Reset the settings

Incorrectly configured settings can also cause problems. You can reset your settings without losing your data:

  • Go to Settings > General > Reset or Transfer > Reset Settings.
  • Confirm the operation.

This will restore the default settings while preserving your files.

8. Test in DFU mode

DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode allows you to completely reinstall the operating system.

Use this as a last resort:

  • Connect your iPhone to a computer with iTunes installed.
  • Follow the procedure to enter DFU mode (this varies depending on the model).
  • Reinstall the system via iTunes.

⚠️ Warning: This will erase all data, so remember to back up your data beforehand.

9. Check for hardware damage

If none of the above solutions work, the problem may be hardware-related:

Physical damage: If the screen is cracked or damaged, this may affect the touchscreen.

Water exposure: Even water-resistant models are not completely waterproof. Liquid infiltration can cause problems.

10. Replace the screen

If all else fails, it may be time to replace the screen.

This will cost you much less than a new smartphone and will give your device several more years of life.
