Adding an extra monitor to enjoy dual-screen functionality can significantly improve your productivity, whether for work, study, or leisure. Here's how to connect and set up a second monitor on your PC.
Check your computer's compatibility
Before you begin, ensure that your computer has the necessary ports to connect an additional monitor. The most common ports include:
- HDMI
- DisplayPort
- VGA (less common on modern equipment)
- USB-C (used for newer monitors)
Consult your device's documentation or specifications to identify the available options.

Choose the right screen
When selecting an additional screen, consider:
Size
Choose a screen that fits comfortably into your workspace.
Resolution
Ensure that the screen resolution is compatible with that of your computer.
Connection type
Check that the appropriate cable (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.) is included or purchase one.
Connect the monitor to your PC
- Switch off your computer and monitor to prevent damage.
- Connect a compatible cable between the monitor and the computer.
- Switch on the monitor first, then your computer.
Set up the additional screen
Once the screen is connected, configure it according to your needs.
